Original Packaging for Amstrad SDX60 Satellite Dish, 1989

Made:
1989 in Birmingham
supplier:
Amstrad

Original packaging plus spare bolt for Amstrad SDX60 60mm satellite television dish, manufactured for Amstrad, Birmingham, 1989.

This was the very first dedicated Sky dish. Amstrad's Alan Sugar’s solution to manufacturing dishes quickly and inexpensively was to award the sub-contract to a Birmingham manufacturer which usually made garbage bin lids. Sky saw Alan Sugar’s prominent white dishes as a free advertisement and wherever possible installers persuaded buyers to allow them to be fixed to the front of their houses to make them more visible. This resulted in ‘pocketing’, with high dish concentration building up in certain areas.
