Son of Charles Robert Darwin, naturalist; geologist; originator of the theory of natural selection.

Darwin developed his theory of the tidal evolution of the earth–moon system and relationship. By the 1890's he was recognized as the world's leading authority on the tides. In 1924, Sir Harold Jeffreys refrerred to Sir George Howard Darwin, as the ‘Father of Modern Geophysics and Cosmogony’.
