In 1951 the GIPR combined with the Nizam Guaranteed State Railway, Dholpur State Railway and the Scindia State Railway to form a zone of Indian Railways named Central Railway. One of the largest zones of Indian Railways, the Central India Railway serves Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Punjab.
