Established in 1969 as the England Marketing Advisory Board, later becoming known as the English Tourist Board. The name was changed to the English Tourism Council in 1999. In 2003, it merged with the British Tourist Authority to become VisitBritain. VisitEngland launched as a separate corporate body in the same year.
