Originally based in London; 1898, moved to Brockwell Hall in Herne Hill, before moving to Langley Court in Beckenham in 1921.

1896 Wellcome set up his Chemical Research Laboratories. Together the Chemical and Physiological laboratories formed the Wellcome Research Laboratories.

1900 Travelling to war-torn Sudan, Wellcome was so horrified by the disease and misery he saw there that he set up the Wellcome Tropical Research Laboratories in Khartoum. In London Bureau of Scientific Research - research laboratories dedicated to the study of tropical medicine.

Beckenham site closed in 1995 after Wellcome had been taken over by Glaxo in March 1995 to form Glaxo Wellcome. In December 2000, Glaxo Wellcome became GlaxoSmithKline, when it merged with SmithKline Beecham.
