In 1877 Reynaud created the Praxinoscope and a year later the Praxinoscope Théâtre from which he subsequently developed the Projection Praxinoscope. In 1888 he patented the Théâtre Optique, a large-scale Praxinoscope for public projection. He projected the first animated pictures in public, the 'Pantomimes Lumineuses', at the Musée Grévin in Paris in 1892. Reynaud's final show took place in 1900 and between 1903 and 1907 he focused instead on developing the Stereo-cinema, a double praxinoscope, however this failed to succeed as it was not financially viable.
