Founded by brothers William Gurley (1821–1887) and Lewis Ephraim Gurley (1826–1897). Soon after establishment, became largest engineering and surveying instrument manufacturer in United States. Teledyne Technologies purchased the firm in 1968, began trading as Teledyne-Gurley, and phased out the production of surveying instruments soon thereafter. Now (2008) trade as Gurley Precision Instruments
