Natural Color Kinematograph Company Limited 1903 - 1915

occupation:
Film company
Nationality:
British

Formed by Charles Urban in March 1909, produced films using the Kinemacolor process pioneered by Edward R Turner and then George Albert Smith. Produced the first colour newsreel in 1910 (of the funeral of Edward VII), and the first colour feature film in 1914 (The World, the Flesh and the Devil). The company went into liquidation in 1915 following a legal case over the Kinemacolor patent brought by photographer and inventor William Friese-Greene. Friese-Greene initially lost the case but won an appeal upheld by the House of Lords in March 1915 after which Kinemacolor was not protected by patent.
