Photojournalist and war photographer born Budapest, 1913, as Endre Ernő Friedmann; emigrated to Paris in 1933, and then to Spain to cover the Spanish Civil War; travelled in China, Germany, France and Israel and worked as photographer during second world war for 'Life' magazine; co-founder of Magnum Photos in 1947; killed in Vietnam in 1954.
