1941 - formed as a fighter squadron on HMS Victorius. 1963 - was reformed at Lossiemouth. 1965 - downgraded to second-line status and re-designated as 736 Squadron. 1966 - reformed at Lossiemouth. 1970 - embarked in HMS Ark Royal for the Mediterranean. 1972 - shore base changed to RAF Honington. 1978 - officially disbanded at Lee-on-Solent. 1982 - squadron reformed briefly during the Falklands War.
