1897 - acquired the Maxim Nordenfelt Guns and Ammunition Company Ltd, later the Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Company; built the first British submarine and airship.

1927 - Vickers merged with Armstrong-Whitworth to form Vickers-Armstrongs. After the war, they continued in aircraft, steel, shipbuilding and general engineering, including production of the first British nuclear submarine, the first British V-bomber and the Viscount and VC10 airliners.
