1859/60: joined drawing-office of Maudslay, Son and Field, Lambeth; 1867: Brotherhood became a partner with G. D. Kittoe, at Compton Street, Clerkenwell as Brotherhood and Kittoe, engineers and millwrights, mainly concerned with brewery machinery; after 1871: firm produced machines and engines of Brotherhood's invention; 1872: he introduced the Brotherhood engine; 1881: works transferred to Belvedere Road, Lambeth
