Established by Norman Lockyer during the 1870s at South Kensington, London on the land of Dept. of Science & Arts (west side) adjacent to the South Kensington Museum. Used by the Royal College of Science to provide training for Student in Astronomy (Lockyer & Dr Alfred Fowler). Observatory transferred and incorporated into the Solar Physics Observatory, Cambridge in 1913
