1712 - entered the Royal Navy. 1716 - made a lieutenant . 1722 - was made master and commander of the sloop Weasel. 1724 - became captain of the frigate Scarborough. 1737 - appointed captain of the Centurion and sent to protect British trade in west Africa. 1740 - set sail on an expedition around the world aboard the Centurion. 1745 - promoted rear-admiral. 1746 - promoted vice-admiral. 1747 - raised to the peerage as Baron Anson of Soberton. 1748 - was part of the 'establishment' to improve British naval vessels. 1749 - promoted full admiral. 1751 - first lord of the Admiralty. 1758 - following an outbreak of scurvy, he set up a system of supplying the western squadron at sea with fresh meat and vegetables.
