Son of James Wyld, the elder (1790-1836) geographer; map publisher; father of James John Cooper Wyld (1845-1907); worked in his father's company from about 1830, trading as J. Wyld & Son. 1823: acquired Faden's map business and reissued many of Faden's maps, often but not invariably updated and amended, over his own firm's imprint. Wyld was also accorded the title of geographer to his majesty and his royal highness the duke of York, a title previously held by Faden.
