Along with Charles Pravez (France) and Alexander Wood (Scotland), Rynd is claimed as one of the possible inventors of the hypodermic syringe, c.1845 he supposedly invented the hollow needle and used it to make the first recorded subcutaneous injections, specifically a sedative to treat neuralgia. Pravez and Wood's finer syringes were developed 8 years later
