The Standing Regular Army founded by Charles II in 1660 led to the possibility of pursuing a career in army medicine for the first time. The medical scandal of the Crimean War highlighted problems with the contemporary system, and sporadic medical groups such as the 'Army Hospital Corps' were set up. In 1898 that all ranks became fused together into a single Corps. On the 23 June 1898 Queen Victoria signed a bill stating that a "Corps be formed styled the Royal Army Medical Corps". 1 July 1898 - RAMC came into existence.
