1815 - moved to London and studied line engraving with James Stewart, stipple engraving with Thomas Woolnoth, and mezzotinting with Thomas Lupton. 1819 - returned to Scotland. 1829 - married Elizabeth Reynolds, also an engraver (daughter of Samuel William Reynolds), and returned to London where he remained for the rest of his life.
