Son of Lionel Sharples Penrose. Along with M.C. Escher, Lionel and Roger Penrose made the 'impossible objects' famous, including the staircase and triangle. Roger Penrose became Rouse Ball professor of mathematics at Oxford and a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).
