Rene Panhard (1841-1908) and Emile Levassor (1843-1897) took over an engineering factory in 1860s; 1887 - obtained licence from Gottlieb Daimler to construct engines; 1889 - first Panhard & Levassor launched at Paris car show; 1895 - first car to be imported into the United Kingdom; 1900 - developed own engine.
