1785 - John Davernport began making ceramic pots

1794 - acquired his own pottery at Longport and started producing pierced openworked rimmed plates.

1800 - started producing fine bone china.

1830 - John retired and the business continued by his sons, Henry and William.

1835 - Henry Davenport died and the company traded as William Davenport and Company.

1837 - commissioned to make 24 dessert plates for a formal meal given for Queen Victoria to celebrate her accession to the throne.

1869 - William Davenport died and the company run by his sons until 1877.

Davenport favoured fruit, flower and Japanese patterns on his pottery. Items were not marked before 1805, whereafter the name DAVENPORT (with or without an anchor) was inscribed upon the base.
