British owned railway company operating in India. Formed in 1845 but the first passenger train did not run until 1853. In 1900 the assets of the GIPR were bought by the Government of India and merged with those of the Indian Midland Railway, forming a 'new' GIPR managed by the original company. In 1925 the GoI took complete control of the GIPR, and in 1951Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway, the Dholpur State Railway and the Scinde State Railway to become Indian Railway's Central Railway.
