Authorised on 5 August 1891, opened from Stobcross to Clydebank on 1 May 1896, to Dumbarton East on 1 October, and became a lucrative line for goods, commuters and trippers to Loch Lomond. Vested in the Caledonian Railway from 1 August 1909 by an Act dated 16 August.
