In 1848 Acts were passed authorizing construction from Salisbury to Yeovil whence an independent company, the Exeter, Yeovil & Dorchester Railway with considerable L. & S.W.R. support, was to make the line to Exeter. The powers of both Acts were, however, allowed to lapse.
