Authorised on 21 July 1856, opened between Southborough Row (now Bickley) and Bromley on 5 July 1858, joining the London, Chatham & Devon Railway line from Rochester on 3 December 1860. The LC&DR leased the company with effect from September 1863, but it remained independent until Grouping.
