Passenger traffic began on 28 December 1887; its working was much more complex, being either by the company, the GWR or the Rhymney Railway, depending upon whether the traveller was using a local or through service. Working was taken over by the GWR from 1 January 1899. Services were withdrawn as an economy from 1 January 1917 but reinstated later. 1923 - became a GWR constituent. Passenger services between Pontypridd and Caerphilly were finally withdrawn on 17 September 1956.
