A 'Sterling' model Ingersoll watch in a silver case by the Dennison Watch Case Co, hallmarked for 1915. Painted card dial, with subsidiary seconds and inscribed 'Ingersoll, Stirling, parts made in U.S.A. assembled in England.' The dial's original numerals have been overlaid with black cartouches, and numbers painted in a radium based luminous paint. Steel full-plate movement with lever escapement. Prototype for a series of twelve watches with lever escapements, each with 21 jewels in gold chatons, set in gilded and engraved plates. The engine-turned silver dials show the hours, seconds and date, the date-work being Roger Smith’s unique design. The cases are hand-made in 18 carat gold, with sapphire crystals to the backs and fronts. This watch is a prototype, containing the case, dial and hands, but no movement.
