The Costs and Accounts Office was under the authority of the Chief Accountant who was responsible for all accounts, the submission of statistics, the preparation of estimates. He had custody of the company's stores, was responsible for the preparation of payrolls, timekeeping, the payment of wages. He also had responsibility for the staff employed on this work.
