The papers cover the planning and building of the Horsham-Petworth and Petworth to Midhurst lines, Sussex. The Mid-Sussex Railway opened the Horsham to Petworth line in 1859, then in 1862 the Mid- Sussex line was acquired by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway. This company gained an act of parliament to extend the line from Petworth to Midhurst in 1866. In 1864 the London south Western Railway connected the Petersfield to Midhurst with its own line. The papers include costings for material and construction of tunnels, bridges, land, roads, fencing, memorandums from meeting, maps, plans, surveys, petitions and agreements.
