Railway Collecting Dog: "Laddie", stuffed Airedale Terrier in glass showcase with collecting box for London & South Western Railway Servants' Orphanage, ex Wimbledon Station.

Laddie was an Airedale terrier, born in 1948. With a box strapped to his back he collected money for the Southern Railway Servants Orphanage and worked at Waterloo Station for seven years.

Laddie retired on Saturday March 31st 1956, and went to live at the Southern Railway Home for Old People at Woking. He held Honorary rank of Sergeant in the Tail Waggers Club, an animal welfare charity founded in 1929, until retirement when he was promoted to Honorary Centurian, the highest rank in the club in recognition of his collections for charity.

After Laddie’s death in around 1960 he returned to Wimbledon, stuffed and mounted in a glass case and continued collecting on Platform Eight, where he replaced Wimbledon Nell, who was transferred to the Clapham Museum. He continued to raise money until 1990.
