Baird Portable T164 television receiver, made in the United Kingdom in 1949.
This table model receiver in walnut casing has a nine-inch screen. The Baird 'Portable' television receiver was an early transportable set designed to be easily moved from room to room in the home. In order to facilitate this, the receiving aerial was built into the mains lead giving rise to the advertising slogan 'needs no aerial'. Also launched around the same time were the Baird 'Everyman', 'Countryman' and 'Townsman' receivers.
