Polychrome tin-glazed earthenware drug jar, with gothic drug name, from Venice late 16th early 17th century
The inscription on this drug jar, “Salten”, may be an Italian version of the German word zelten, meaning “protective plaster”. The jar was bequeathed to the Wellcome collections by the British laryngologist Sir St Clair Thomson (1856-1943). It is shown here with three other drug jars (A42538, A636311 and A636312).
