Portrait of patient with Icthyosis Hystrix
Portrait of female patient with Icthyosis Hystrix, three-quarter view, left side, arms crossed, and draped in white from the waist down. The patient has brown hair carefully arranged in a bun, her serene face at odds with her shockingly diseased skin. This plate designated as both plate V, plate 5, (in pencil) and VI, plate 6 (printed) is a copy of a portrait published by Professor Hebra in Vienna. It was commissioned by the New Sydenham Society to artist E. Burgess as part of the Society's Atlas of skin diseases. More information on the portraits included in the Atlas can be found in 'A Descriptive Catalogue of the New Sydenham Society's Atlas of Portraits of Diseases of the Skin' by Jonathan Hutchinson.
