Spherical glass jar, Roman.

Made:
151-300 CE

Glass jar, Roman, 151-300AD. Glass appears to have been produced as far back as the second millenium BC by the Egyptians and perhaps the Phoenicians. Around the end of the 1st century BC glass-blowing was developed, whereby intricate and symmetrical shapes could be produced. With the backing of the powerful Roman Empire glass-blowing made glass products more accessible to the common people, and as the size of the Roman Empire increased the art of glass-making spread to many countries.
