Farmer, Thomas

Thomas Farmer was a pioneer in the use of pyrites for the manufacture of sulphuric acid. His father, Richard Farmer founded a vitriol factory near Kennington Common, London 1778, and Thomas Succeeded him. Farmer held Scottish and English patents in relation to pyrites and sulphurous acid. When his 1840 patent was granted he was living at Gunnersbury House, near Acton, Middlesex.
