William Charles Hughes (1844-1908), began as a manufacturing optician, latter moving into the supply of magic lanterns; prior to this he worked as a succesful stage entertainer; in 1884 Hughes patented an improved Choreutoscope and in 1897 Hughes became the supplier of the Moto-Photoscope projector and Moto-Photograph camera, eventually moving on to designing and manufacturing hisown cameras, projectors, and cinematographic accessories.
