1852 - published Hydropathy, or, The Water Cure. 1853 - acquired a small hydro on Matlock Bank which treated about a hundred patients a year. 1858 - published Practical Hydropathy. 1861 - published The Ladies' Manual of Practical Hydropathy for Female Patients. 1862 - began to build Riber Castle overlooking Matlock.
