Henry James Redfern, optician based Sheffield, also retailing and possibly manufacturing cameras and photographic equipment from two premises in Sheffield; also demonstrated x-ray technology and Lumiere Cinematographe; expanded into entertainment with 'Jasper Redfern's Palace by the Sea' at Westcliffe and 'Grand Theatre of Varieties' in Manchester and into making and showing moving pictures, covering local football and cricket matches from about 1899; together with Frank Mottershaw made first outdoor films in Sheffield, building a studio in Hanover Street; studio produced 'A Daylight Robbery' in 1905; Redfern made and exhibited films up to about 1915, before concentrating on research into x-rays and cancer treatment at Christie Hospital, Manchester. died from cancer in 1928
